A Little Space Mission for Coloring Time

Five easy ways to turn paper and a few pencils into an imaginary journey beyond our planet.

The little takeaway

Five easy ways to turn paper and a few pencils into an imaginary journey beyond our planet. Start with one idea, follow your child’s interests, and leave room for their own choices.

Prepare for a pretend mission

Start with blank paper or a space-themed drawing you own. This is an imaginary storytelling activity, so the destination can be a made-up world. Set out a few pencils or crayons and invite your child to become the mission designer.

Name the rocket

Draw a tall rounded shape with two fins and a circular window. Ask the child to choose a name and two main colors. A grown-up can add the name in large letters. Keep the drawing simple, with plenty of space to decorate the sides.

Pack three things

What would the pretend traveler take along? Draw three small objects next to the rocket: perhaps a toy, a snack, and a map. Let the child invent alternatives. The aim is a playful story, not a realistic checklist for space travel.

Create an imaginary world

Draw a big circle on a second sheet. Invite the child to fill it with broad shapes, dots, or stripes. Give the world a made-up name and decide what a visitor would notice first. When talking about real planets, keep those facts separate from the invented world.

Make a star path

Place a few large stars between the rocket and the destination. Color them in a repeating sequence or choose a different color each time. Follow the path with a finger and count down before the imaginary launch. Skip the counting if your child would rather tell a story.

Send a postcard home

Fold a piece of paper in half. Put a picture of the destination on the front and a sentence inside: “Today we discovered…” A grown-up can take dictation or the child can draw the message. The finished postcard makes a small keepsake of the afternoon.

Where does Space fit in the series?

Space is a planned continuation of Wild Little Wonders under Little Wonder Club. Its intended audience is ages 4–8, but final publication details are still being developed. There is no release date or preorder link. You can explore its theme page now and browse the published Baby Animals book for real interior previews.
